mouthpiece

Most individuals will utilize mouthpieces because they assist to shield their mouth when participating in any form of contact sport. Some will use them because they think they are assistive at assisting them to quit snoring. While there are numerous distinct uses for them and types we believe that the best thing you could use is one that is custom made.

The greatest thing about these is that they are designed to perfectly fit the shape of your mouth. This will help to keep it from falling out or being too small. All you have to do is buy the kit that has the ability to help you to make it right in your home.

What To Do

The first thing you have to do is put water in a pan and permit it to become warm. You don’t want it to be boiling. Just hot enough to mold the material so that it is able to help to match the size and shape of your mouth. When the water is overly hot it will melt the mold and make it unusable.

Place the mold in the water for 15 seconds or a little bit less or more if necessary. Remove it and place it in your mouth. Ensure that it is not too hot because you don’t want to burn yourself during this process.

Push it up against the teeth and utilize your fingers to mold it to the whole of your mouth from the outside. Do this fast because it needs to still be warm so as to be effective. Keep doing this until you have fitted the custom mouthpiece to look the way it should.

Have you played trumpet, trombone or saxophone in the past and have the desire to play again? If so, you are not alone. Millions of people over the last 50 years have participated in band or school jazz groups while in high school or college, but for one reason or another lacked the opportunities to continue performing after they entered the work force and began raising families.

Very few musicians who play a musical instrument well will ever make a living at it, but that does not mean you should quit and sell your horn on eBay! Forming a community big band or small jazz group may be a the best excuse for dusting off that old instrument and beginning a regular practice and performing routine once again. A community jazz group not only offers local musicians a creative outlet, but it also offers members of your local community a chance to hear big band music performed on a regular basis.

The first step in starting your local community band is to identify the size of group you would like to assemble. Jazz groups can range in size from a trio to a full big band. The size of your group will most likely depend on the availability of musicians in your area. If you live in a sparsely populated area, the task of finding available (or any) musicians could turn out to be a rough task. Every reasonably populated city or town, however, should be able to produce enough musicians to outfit a small or medium sized jazz group or even a big band.

Local Musicians Union

The first place to look for available musicians should be the local musicians union membership. The local union will have a list of all members of the union, both professional and non-professional. If you are a member yourself, you should receive a directory of all other musicians who are members. This directory will contain all contact information for every member of the union. Don’t be afraid to approach or contact the best musicians in your area when putting your band together. Good musicians like to peform in groups (paying or non-paying) that are top notch in quality. You will have a better chance of putting together a better band if you go after the best players first.

Referrals

Once you have contacted a handful of skilled players in each section of your band, ask those same players for referrals of other musicians they would like to have in their section. For example, Joe is the best lead trumpet player in your area and he agrees to come to rehearsal and play in the band. Immediately after getting Joe’s positive response, ask him if he knows other trumpet players that he would recommend. Invariably, the musicians you ask for referrals will always give you names of other top players in town.

When calling these new “prospects” always mention that “Joe” (or whoever the referal came from) told you to call. Mention that they were referred to you as one of the best players in town. This approach will not only help break the ice when calling but it will give you credibility at the same time. Use this referral tactic with all sections of the band that need to be filled – trumpets, trombones, saxes and rhythm section. Referrals are a powerful way to put together a highly skilled ensemble.

Craigslist

The popular website Craigslist may help you pull musicians “out of the woodwork” as well. Place an ad under the music categories to find any spots that need to be filled within your band. Make your ad specific to the type of player you are trying to reach. Don’t simply put: bass player wanted. Be specific as to the type of music you will be performing and the level of musician you are looking for. Always audition musicians that respond to classified ads, and do not promise anything until you have made sure they perform to a level that you are seeking. The world is full of instrument “owners” who think they can play!

Starting and organizing a community big band or jazz group can be a rewarding endeavor for both musician and listeners. The monetary compensation will never be great, but the emotional and esthetic rewards will more than make up for it.

Britain’s Got Talent: The Human Saxophone sparks our top 10

Pink Floyd, the richly talented Rock group have released their latest CD titled Dark Side Of The Moon and Wow! It’s really a good one.

Refreshingly, this was one of those CDs I was able to just pop in and comfortably listen to from beginning to end. Every track is enjoyable and was pretty easy for me to listen to from start to finish.

Dark Side Of The Moon is a pleasantly varied, mix of 9 tracks that are very well written and brilliantly performed songs by these clearly talented musicians. Most of the songs display a lot of the kind emotion that makes for a really great listen. Clearly drawing from what I can only imagine are their own real life experiences. At different points touching on the most real emotions of love, heartbreak, pain, failed relationships and unattainable romance. They’re all here.

If you’re a Pink Floyd fan, or just a fan of Rock music this is a CD your collection simply should not be without.

While this entire album is really very good the truly standout tunes are track 2 – On the Run, track 4 – The Great Gig In The Sky, and track 7 – Any Colour You Like.

My Bonus Pick, and the one that got Sore [...as in "Stuck On REpeat"] is track 6 – Us And Them. Wow!

Saxophones are conical-bored transposing steel or brass instruments. A member of the wood wind family of musical instruments, the saxophone is played with the help of a single reed mouthpiece, much like a clarinet. The saxophone was created by its inventor Adolphe Sax back in 1841.

One of the most common of all musical instruments used in modern music today is the saxophone. Used in almost every genre including jazz, rhythm and blues, hip hop, and other forms of contemporary music. There are many different kinds of saxophones, including the alto saxophone and the tenor saxophone.

The alto saxophone is a medium sized saxophone that is in the key of E flat. Well known as one of the most commonly played types of saxophones, the alto sax is the perfect started saxophone. The tenor saxophone is a type of saxophone that is much bigger than the traditional alto saxophone. Tuned to the key of B flat, the tenor saxophone also uses a much larger mouth piece.

There are many web sites online that have saxophones for sale too at reasonable and affordable prices. Some of the better brands and manufacturers to look for include Cannonball, P. Mauriat, Selmer, Yamaha, Unison, Leblanc/Vito, Keilwerth, Yanagisawa and Buffet Crampon. Be careful though when buying used saxophones, as theft is a common occurrence in bars and clubs where jazz bands are frequent. Tell tale signs of thieves selling stolen used instruments include filed off serial numbers, extremely cheap prices, and the seller’s ignorance of the used saxophone he or she is selling. Cheap Alto Saxophone Reviews

Is there a second hand music store in the SF Bay Area?

I need to buy my kid a tenor saxophone. Are there any second hand music stores around Walnut Creek,CA??

thanks.

search using google maps.

Your Call. Secondhand Serenade cover.

If one is looking at purchasing a used  saxophone, two presumptions or considerations may arise: first, that the person purchasing must get the item which will give him the best value for his money; second, that the person is using it for playing music.  The importance of the second point is that saxophone, as a musical instrument, comes in different kinds.  The difference lies in the music and pitch being produced by each type of instrument, sizes and shapes, as well as considerations which are related to the skill level of the player of the instrument.

Therefore, to be able to make the best decision as to which saxophone best suits any player of the instrument,  it is important that one has a working knowledge of the different types of saxophones as well as the corresponding differences that distinguish one from the other.  In doing this, one can effectively discriminate and choose the saxophone that best suits him.

There are generally four types of saxophones available in the market today.  The first type is called the soprano saxophone.  The soprano saxophone is tuned in the key of B flat (or Bb).  It has the highest tune or pitch among all the other types of saxophones.  Consequently, playing the instrument requires some skill because the pitch, being high, is more difficult to manipulate and manage.  Therefore, most of the players of this type of saxophone are already adept at playing the instrument and are what can properly be considered as professional saxophonists.

The second type is the Alto Saxophone which plays at the key of E flat (or Eb).  The position of this type of saxophone’s bell allows its player to hear more of the sound produced by the instrument than by the other saxophones played.  Most pieces composed for practice are also tuned in the key of Alto Saxophone.  Consequently, it is considered as most befitting beginners and anyone whose skill level in saxophone is elementary.

The third type would be the tenor saxophone.  It is larger than the alto saxophone and the sound its produces is closer in range to the human voice.  This is also the best type of instrument for playing jazz and some rock.

The fourth type of saxophone is the baritone saxophone.  It has the lowest range among the other types of saxophone and is usually used in the bass section in soul music or tunes.  It is also the biggest and heaviest among all the other types of saxophone.

All of these types of saxophones are best in their own respect.  One just needs to identify precisely the use of the saxophone to be played or purchased.  So if one is a beginner, it is strongly suggested that he starts playing the alto saxophone first.  It also depends upon the sound that the player is most interested in.  If one prefers to play jazz tunes, then the tenor saxophone is recommended.  But if one is more into bass range sound, richer and deeper tone then the baritone is the best choice.

One may also take into account the size and the weight of the saxophone which will affect its manageability and overall comfort in playing the instrument. There are, of course, no hard fast rules applicable in determining the best type of saxophone.  The person has to weigh in different factors in the process of trying top get the saxophone which is just right for him.
